Progressive Era Hall of Fame

Task:
You work for a public relations firm that produces videos. You have been hired to produce a video at least 90 seconds long to promote a candidate who lived during the late 19th or early 20th century for induction into the Progressive Hall of Fame.

Final Products:
  • Short video produced with a partner on WeVideo
  • Bibliography created with your partner on NoodleTools
  • 1-2 page Process/Reflection paper (individual)

Backstory:
According to the source of all human knowledge (Wikipedia), the Progressive Era was a period of social activism and political reform that flourished from the 1890s to the 1920s. During this time many reformers stepped up to try to remedy a host of issues that resulted from the industrialization and urbanization of America. You are going to focus in on one of these reformers.

Take a look at these links to get some context:

Wikipedia article on the Progressive Era
Read Chapter 9 in your textbook.

Watch John Green (below).

Step-by-step:
1. Choose a partner.
2. Pick a reformer.
Submit your choice here. I will start accepting proposals at the end of the day on Wednesday, October 15, 2014.
3. Research.
  • Find at least 3 reliable sources (at least one primary)
  • Use Wikipedia only as a starting point (check sources at the end of the article, external sites, etc.)
  • Focus on your person from the perspective of Leadership and Legacy
  • You only have a few days to complete this so you are not going to research your topic as deeply as MLARC or NHD
  • Keep track of your sources on NoodleTools
4. Create a WeVideo account.
5. Watch some of the training tutorials.
6. Collaboratively create a video at least 90 seconds long promoting your person for induction to the Progressive Hall of Fame.

7. Upload the video to your YouTube channel and submit the link on Jupiter.
8. Export your MLA bibliography from NoodleTools as a .doc or .docx.
9. Write and upload your Process paper/Reflective Essay on Jupiter (Note: This is a separate assignment because it is an individual not a group assignment).
10. Get ready to enjoy each other's work and then vote on which reformers should get into the Progressive in Hall of Fame.

11. Expect a quiz on the reformers!
